Mrs. Nash

Meet Mrs. Nash

My name is Mrs. JoeAnn Nash.  I am excited to begin my 16th year in education, and more excited about starting this upcoming school year at CICS Loomis as Principal. I obtained my Bachelor of Science from National Louis University, my Master of Arts in Teaching from Saint Xavier University and my Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Lewis University.

Working in education was a career change for me. While pursuing my Bachelor of Science degree I was employed as a Cost Accounting Specialist for a manufacturing company. From there, I transitioned into the field of education.  I began working on my first Master’s degree in Teaching while working as a paraprofessional in the south suburbs of Chicago. I began teaching at CICS Loomis during the 2009-2010 school year as a second grade teacher.

While working as a middle school teacher, I completed my second Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. I held the role of grade level team leader and teacher leader of the middle school.  I was also a member of the curriculum committee where I assisted in choosing a new ELA curriculum for the district.  I became an instructional coach in 2017.  In this role, I coached teachers in grades kindergarten through eighth as well as fine arts teachers.

In July of 2020, I became the K-5 Assistant Principal at CICS Loomis-Longwood.  In this role I was responsible for community relations and supporting coaches and master teachers around curriculum implementation.  I facilitated professional development to lead staff in the implementation of high quality instruction. I also worked to provide a rich school culture for students, staff and families.

I am trained as a Real Time Teacher Coach (RTTC). Under my leadership, teachers consistently showed an increase in student engagement and cognitive engagement which aligned with being a No-Nonsense Nurturer. As a teacher, I used student data to drive instruction that led to increased student academic outcomes. I am a firm believer in empowering teachers and students to show their best selves; and I embody this belief system through my journey from serving in support staff to teacher and leadership roles. I work tirelessly to build strong trusting relationships with all stakeholders. I am looking forward to working with everyone. When I think about the upcoming school year, I’m reminded of a quote from Eric Thomas, “I can, I will, I must”.  This quote reminds me of the important work that lies ahead for all of us.  With this in mind, I know that we can and will grow ourselves and our students this school year!

On a personal note, I have been married for 26 years and we have 2 adult sons, who you will hear me talk about often. When I am not working, I enjoy reading, taking Zumba classes, and spending time with family and friends.
